Callaghan Cup 2008

The Tom Og and Paul Callaghan Perpetual Trophy 2008

Ballapousta NS 4-07 Nobber NS 1-06

On November 29th, 2008, a frosty and cold Saturday morning, Ballapousta NS played Nobber NS in the Tom Og agus Pol Callaghan Perpetual Trophy match. The game was played in a very competitive and sporting manner, a fitting tribute to Paul and Tom Og Callaghan.

The Trophy is named after Tom Og Callaghan and Paul Callaghan, two pupils of Ballapousta NS who died tragically in a boating accident in August 1999 along with two other members of the extended Callaghan family.

It is hoped to make the game an annual event between the two schools and to invite other teams to take part also. Many thanks to Ronan McGahan of Nobber NS for all his work in organising the game.

The 'Man of the Match Award' was won by Sam Ogumgbe, captain of Nobber NS. Samuel showed that he is a brilliant defender and will play with Meath someday. The game was refereed by Peter O'Halloran of Drumconrath GFC, Youth Officer, Meath Co. Board.
